I want to introduce Jesika Jeune. I am especially excited about her feature because she is also a beautiful woman of Haitian descent.
A little bit about Jesika Jeune:
A Haitian American raised in Boston
, Jesika Jeune is a plus-size model who aims to make a transformative impact in the world through her modeling. She acts as a role model by demonstrating to young people the importance of a comprehensive educational foundation
and by proving women thrive by living a balanced, healthy lifestyle and not one that is dictated by the size of their jeans. Jesika is a committed altruist
, always seeking to help those who are less fortunate. She is the CFO of TAMTAM
—a nonprofit that provides bed nets to pregnant women and children to prevent the contraction of malaria. Jesika spent her undergrad at Mount Holyoke College, and completed her Master’s degree at Northeastern University in Nonprofit Management
, with a concentration in Accounting. Jesika mentors youth and is also involved in education reform in the Boston area.

What made you decide to become a model/work in plus size fashion industry?
I love the way fashion allows us to project our true selves to the world without hidden agendas. However, the one thing I would change about the fashion world is its idealization of a certain, rare and often unattainable body type. I hope to be a part of the inspiring change we’re starting to see in the media: the inclusion of women we see everyday – curvy or plus-sized, beautiful, and confident women – in fashion publications.
What are some of the Pros and Cons of being in the industry?
The lack of diversity we see in fashion media is the biggest flaw I see in the industry, which is funny because the fashion industry’s best trait is it’s potential for limitless creativity! Think of how fresh, innovative, and provocative the industry will be once plus-sized women and women of color have more of an influence. In my opinion, it’s only a matter of time.

What are a few words of encouragement you would like to leave for CURVY WOMEN EVERYWHERE?
Fashion is all about expressing yourself and being unique, and what’s more unique than you and your curves? Your curves give you an edge! No one – literally, no one – can fill out that dress like you, because your body is a unique than the number on its tag! With all of the images that bombard us curvy girls daily, it’s hard to remind ourselves that beauty is more than skin deep. But, I guarantee that confidence and intelligence enhances your look tenfold.
